Design Systems at Enterprise Scale
A coherent language for scale, built to survive new products, new teams, and now, AI.
A design system that's just a component library breaks the moment something doesn't fit the components — which, in a large organization, is constantly.
What actually scales is a coherent language: shared principles for how decisions get made, not just shared buttons and spacing tokens.
Across more than a decade of enterprise and brand work — Qualcomm, Rolex, Mazda, Disney, Universal Studios, Under Armour, Chanel, MAC — the hard part was never the visual layer. It was getting multiple teams, sometimes multiple brands, to move in the same direction without slowing anyone down.
AI raises the bar further. A system now has to define not just how a button looks, but how an intelligent agent behaves — and that behavior has to feel consistent with everything else in the product, or trust breaks immediately. (See Designing AI That People Actually Trust.)
The system that scales is the one built to absorb the next thing you haven't designed yet.
